Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus will be entering his 7th NFL season at age 27. He’ll be starting year 3 of his 6-year, $96.5 million dollar contract he signed in 2015.
Marcell has had an up and down career for the Bills and it continued Saturday night. Dareus showed up to the game late and was sent home to Buffalo.
Gm Brandon Beane: “Sean and I are going to do things the right way. He violated a team rule, so we sent him home. Disappointing.”
It’s time for Mr. big stuff to clean up his act. As you can tell by the contract, the Bills are heavily invested in him.
2016 was a year to forget for Dareus, he missed 8 games total, 4 of them from suspension to a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The suspension, combined with the hamstring, it was a wash of a year.
Of course we all remember in 2014, when Dareus was charged with drag racing and was sent home by the Bills.
I know his family past and what he has gone through. He’s had alot of tragedies to deal with and he’s overcome them.
He’s a grown man, not a kid. He is getting paid a lot of money to be playing football. He had 3.5 sacks last season, 5.5 the last two seasons. I know it’s not all about sacks, it’s about being a force.
We all know what Dareus can be. In 2014, he had 10 sacks and 49 tackles, helping the Bills defense rank 4th in the league.
He’s a disruption to a entire opponents offense. Getting to the quarterback, being a big run stopper, taking up two offensive linemen. He always has to be accounted for.
The Bills will be in deadcap jail if they were to release Dareus, according to Spotrac, would be : Now: $24.4M in 2017, $14.2M in 2018, After 2017 = $22.2M
He’s one of the best players on the team, I believe he will get his act together. No trading him, (it would be difficult to do.) When healthy and focused on football, he’s one of the best tackles in the league.
