At last the 2017 Buffalo Bills season is here with a home game at New Era Field against the New York Jets.
The Sean McDermott era officially begins with his first game as head coach.
Want to know what to watch for Sunday? Here’s what I’m highlighting:
Run, LeSean, run: The Buffalo offense strongest weapon is running back LeSean McCoy. I expect the Bills to get him going early with the running game, as well as throwing it to him out of the back field. I expect coaches will be smart with him and keep him fresh, so he can last the season. Ethier way, the Bills are going to run the football.
Jets strength is the defensive line: The Jets seem like they’re tanking, but they have at least one strong suit: defensive line. The Bills offensive line has a tough challenge against the front line of the Jets. Leonard Williams is a beast, along with Muhammad Wilkerson and Steve McLendon is good anchoring the middle. If it’s one thing the Jets will pride on, it’s thier defense.
New and improved: This maybe a bit too far, but I expect nice things from McDermott’s defense this season. Unlike the disaster that was the Ryan regime, players will be put in the right positions to be successful. Watch out for Jerry Hughes to get back on track. The whole secondary is new, at corner and safety. Let’s see if Preston Brown can build on a solid summer. And as always, Kyle Williams to be the face of that side of the football.
Tyrod and his weapons: It will certainly be interesting to see how much the Bills will throw, and Taylor’s chemistry with receivers. I will be looking for who plays the slot, how quickly this offense will run. It’s supposed to be a quick, get the call out type west coast offense. Coaches and Tyrod said all summer it suits him well, but will it?
