Could Cliff Pu actually make the Sabres roster?

Buffalo Sabres forward Cliff Pu has turned some heads so far this training camp.

It started during the prospects challenge a couple weeks ago.

Pu is a former 3rd round, 69th overall pick from the 2016 draft. He played last season with the London Knights in the Ontario hockey league. He had 86 points in 63 game last year.

The 19 year old has smooth skating, with a high hockey IQ, who has a nice shot and passing skills are great. He can play some smothering defense and can help on special teams.

But could he actually be the surprise of camp and make this team? There’s always a chance

Botterill and Housley have said there are spots to be earned this training camp. Pu has been playing well and is still up, now keep in mind only four have been sent down to thier junior clubs so far.

The Sabres brass also believes in proper development. If they see Pu is progressing nicely but still needs seasoning, they will do what’s best for him and the organization.

Seeing Pu as a bright spot this month leads me to believe that maybe the Sabres aren’t that low in terms of prospect depth.
