The Buffalo Sabres win two in a row and thier first home game of the season by defeating the Detroit Red Wings by a score of 1-0.
Here’s what stood out
Stock up
Robin Lehner
The best performance of the season for the goaltender. Lehner made 32 saves, a couple of those saves were crucial in the final two minutes. He has played some good hockey these past couple periods dating back to Boston. He is seeing pucks better and the team playing in front of him is playing simpler.
Benoit Pouliot
The Sabres are undefeated when #67 scores. He has been playing his best stretch of hockey. Not just scoring, but strong on the walls, forechecking and fundamentally sound on the defensive side.
Defense
Playing much simpler brand of hockey. Less odd man rushes against. Ristolainen and McCabe playing better, Fedun always plays a good game in my opinion. Congrats to Antipin who gets his career NHL point.
Stock down
Power play
Struggles tonight. Way too much passing in my opinion. Housley is always talking mabout shooting, they need to shoot more when on the man advantage. Was once a huge strength is now a question mark. I realize it will take some time under new coaching regime, but there should be better results.
Untimely penalties
A lot of penalties came during the power play. Already a struggling part of this team, taking penalties a minute or minute and a half during a man advantage doesn’t help this unit.
