The Buffalo Sabres lose to the San Jose Sharks 3-2 at Key Bank Center this afternoon after a late third period goal by Logan Couture.

The Sabres end the month of October 3-7-2. Buffalo doesn’t play next until Thursday in Arizona.

Stock down

Late 2nd period goal

With 12 seconds left to go in the second period, Chris Tierney tied the game. Right after the Sabres killed a powerplay. Buffalo would’ve been up heading into the locker room. Housley and players always talk about finishing periods, they didn’t in that second.

Missed opportunities

There were a lot of scoring chances for this hockey team this afternoon. A lot of puck went wide of the net that usually go in. Okposo missed a bear game tying goal late in the third. Buffalo’s poweplay moved the puck well, generated chances, couldn’t bury them. Jordan Nolan missed a prime scoring chance in the 1st period. All in all, this team should of had more than just two on Dell.

Goaltender interference on Eichel goal

This is a call that could go ethier way. But that’s the point. The call on the ice was a goal, coach challenged. If the play took that long to look at to make a decision, it’s clear the refs should have still called it a goal. I’m not saying this just because it’s Buffalo, but in any situation. If it’s that close, go with what was called first on the ice. If it was the other way around, and Housley challenged it, then go with the call on the ice first. It’s ruining the game of hockey.
Stock up

Energy

The Sabres played with a lot of energy and focus this afternoon. Better plays, passing was nice to see, just wish they finished near the net. There was a lot of games in this first month where you go, okay they’re playing good, where are the results. That’s what we’re waiting on.

Ryan O’Reilly

The last 7 games have been good for him. Not just offensively, but overall. He said he woulda liked to been better on the defensive side today, but I thought he was good there as well. If he can get on a roll, it will boost this team.
