Bisons bullpen is team’s strongest weapon

By Brandon J. Koch

Finally baseball!

After three consecutive postponements in Rochester, the Buffalo Bisons season officially starts in Pawtucket against the Red Sox.

To end the preview section, it’s time to dig into the Herd’s bullpen, which looks like the team’s strong suit.

Carlos Ramirez

The best pitcher in the pen, Ramirez played 7 games with Buffalo and posted 16 strikeouts with a zero earned run average. In 12 games with the Jays, Ramirez had an 2.70era and 29 strikeouts. Look for his slider and 4-seam fastball to be his strengths.

Al Albuquerque

A reliever with 7 seasons of big league experience. He has his slider, sinker and 4 Sean fastball. His changeup is there, but throws it the least.

Rhiner Cruz

Is on the 7-day disabled list but will be a key contributor to the Herd’s pen. A 2.84era and 63 strikeouts in 50 innings last season.

Matt Dermody

He’s played the past two season for Buffalo and has been up with Toronto for a brief stint. Dermody had his struggles last season, but is usually a solid reliever in triple A.
