Recap: Indians 2, Bisons 1

By Brandon J. Koch

The Indianapolis Indians defeated the Buffalo Bisons by a score of 2-1 today at Coca-Cola Field.

Buffalo falls in their home opener that included a 1 hour and 39 minute rain delay.

WW2 Vet throws first pitch: A great moment as 103 year-old World War 2 veteran Sydney Cole threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Tellez struggles: First baseman Rowdy Tellez went 0-4 today and his average dips to .067, something that will concern Jays fans. He is not working the count and not letting his power come naturally, he’s trying to rake the baseball.

McGuire bounces back: After going hitless in Pawtucket, Reese McGuire starts off this series going 2-4.

Keeping Meadows in check: The Bisons pitching staff did a good job of keeping centerfield Austin Meadows in check, holding him to a double. Meadows is the #2 prospect in the Pittsburgh Pirates system.

Hernandez continues hot streak: Teoscar Hernandez launched a homerun in left field that hit the net. He continues his hot hitting, going 2-3 with a run.

Gaviglio’s start: Only 4.1 innings pitched, but was productive. Gaviglio gave up 2 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4.

Carrot, Beef on weck replace celery: Not one, but two foods replace celery in the 716 food and sport race. Carrot was introduced in the middle of the 4th and beef on weck came out of no where during the race, and won.

Next game: Friday for game two of the series against the Indians. First pitch is at 6:05- Coca-Cola Field.
