Urena, the 11th ranked prospect in the Bluejays system, was in Dunedin on a rehab assignment. In 7 games, Urena batted .148 with 2RBIs.
Here is what the voice of the Bisons, Pat Malacaro, said when I asked him about Urena: “Great question about Richard. You never know until a player is finally at this level getting consistent playing time. So many promising prospects have great success further down the organizational ladder, but by the time they get to AAA everything changes. Playing and hitting against pitchers that have been in the big leagues before is part of what separates the good prospects from just the average ones.”
The Bison have a crowded outfield. With Danny Espinosa being cut loose and Devon Travis, Tim Lopes at 2nd base, Urena is in line to get those at bats and starting at short.
