Sabres dominate Pens

By Brandon J. Koch

The Buffalo Sabres defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 3-1.

This was the last thing I expected, the Sabres took control of the game early on Pittsburgh and never looked back.

Here are some observations:

Great game by Connor Sheary. Secondary scoring comes in as a huge question mark, his production and bounce back would be huge.

Rasmus Dahlin the forward? What a goal and a great pass by Sam Reinhart. Krueger talked about Dahlin being more involved offensively without the puck.

Possession kings: Sabres took control of possession you say? Against the Pens? That’s exactly what happened.

Passing was crisp and accurate, not something you could say the past eight years.

High quality shots: instead of settling for long shots at the point, the Sabres put pucks down low and forced pressure on Murray.

Eating crow: I know it’s only one game, but the line of Girgensons- Larsson- Okposo was good.

Eichel with Olofsson and Reinhart had the better end against the Crosby line, a 7-2 scoring chance advantage.

Defense was solid:

All three pairs did a good job. Jokiharju was impressive in his debut.
