The Eichel news continues to be the center as training camp starts this week for the Buffalo Sabres.

At the prospects challenge on Monday, general manager Jason Botterill had this to say to reporters: “We’ll continue to talk. I have a great relationship with his agency. Jack’s focusing on the season, but we’ll continue to work. Bottom line is both parties really want to get a deal done. I feel very very confident that we will get a deal done in the near future.”
“We’re trying to get a deal done now. I think both parties are very optimistic a deal can be put in place…Jack won’t let this be a distraction.”

As I said last week in an article, this no reason to be concerned about the Eichel contract situation. Something will get done, it just depends on time. Botterill knows business, he will get a deal done that’s great for both sides. Him having a great relationship with his agency is key as well.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman in his post “31 thoughts,” had this to say about Jack Eichel and the Sabres.

Friedman: “Some players are insecure about entering the last season of their contracts. It’s clear Jack Eichel isn’t one. Even if there is no extension at the start of the season, both sides know he is going to be a Buffalo Sabre for a long time. Eichel is relaxed, very confident about what he is going to do.”

One of the best, respected hockey reporters saying this, you know something will get done.

Eichel last week saying he wants to be here and be a Sabre. He will have a monster year, be top 5 in points and help lead this team compete for the Stanley Cup playoffs, if he can stay healthy and I believe he will. Baring another freak injury.

Training camp is here and the season is right around the corner.
